A6 Timing Test - Audio
Audio Timing Test
Retrieve the small gray Pelican box labeled Pelican 1400 Case.
Connecting the AV box to the Amp
Retrieve the thick gray cord that will connect the AV box to the amplifier.
Insert the circular end of the cord into the port labeled Dins 1 - 8 amp by guiding the cord in until you hear a click. You should not have to force the cord in.
Secure the other end of the cord into the AV box by clicking it into place in the DINS Output port and securing it with the two screw fasteners.
Connecting the AV box to power
Next, plug the AV box into the power source by taking the cord and plugging it into the port labeled ‘9 VDC’.
Make sure the other end of the power cord is plugged into an outlet.
Connecting speakers to Chronos box
Start by finding the short, double ended audio cord.
Unplug the speakers from the ‘Audio out’ port on the chronos box.
Plug the singular end of the short, double ended audio cord into the ‘Audio out’ port of the chronos box.
Plug the speakers back into one end of the double ended cord.
Connecting the AV box to Chronos box
Find the long, double ended cord. The two ends may be red and blue.
Plug the single end into the empty port of the short, double ended cord.
Plug the red end of the cord into the “Audio” port of the AV box. (The other end will not be plugged into anything.)
Miscellaneous notes
Ensure that all cords are adequately plugged in.
You can turn the volume on the speakers all the way down.
The lights on the AV box should not be lighting up if there is no sound coming from the speakers.
Running the Test Itself
Turn on the Mac and PC
Open Net Station Acquisition
Name the file AudioTest_Date_Site
Press “On” to turn the Amplifier on
Go to the side menu panel of Net Station Acquisition and click Hardware Settings. Under the Dins 1-8 options, select DIN 2
Begin MMN as normal – if you see a box asking if you would like to overwrite the experiment, choose Yes.
You should check for two things to make sure the test is running correctly:
Check that the DIN2 light is flashing in rhythm with the stimuli on the AV box
Check that there are DIN2 flags at the top of Net Station Acquisition There should also be stm+ flags.
If either of these do not appear, stop the test and request help.
Checking the Results
Open the Event Timing Tester app at the bottom of the Mac.
You will not see a window open. The program name will only appear at the top of the Mac window.
Click File > Open… > Click the file that matches the name of the test you just ran
If necessary, change the Stim Event Code to stms and the DIN Event Code to DIN2
Select “Create Timing Table”
Go to this spreadsheet: BFY Timing Tests and log the:
Average, maximum, median, and minimum values in the Offsets part of the table.
Zip and transfer the Audio Test file to your site’s EEG flash drive.
Upload the file from the flash drive to the Timing Tests folder on the server (in the EEG folder)
Disconnect all cords (or just the speaker/audio-related cords if proceeding to the visual test next) and return them to their appropriate places in the Pelican box.
