Visual Timing Test


Note that steps 1 - 4 may already be complete if you are doing this test following an audio timing test.

3. Next, plug the AV box into the power source by taking the cord and plugging it into the port labeled ‘9 VDC’. 

4. Make sure the other end of the power cord is plugged into an outlet. 


Setting up the photocell 

5. Retrieve the black stand, gold rod, and photocell from the Pelican box. 

6. Attach the gold rod to the black stand, adjusting the rod so that it will be tilted toward the testing screen. 

7. Secure the photocell into the gold rod. 

8. Plug the end of the photocell into the Photocell port on the AV box. 

9. Adjust the placement of the stand and photocell so that the photocell is facing the screen and so that it is very close but not touching the screen. You will return to this later ensure best placement. 


Setting up the computers

10. Start Net Station Acquisition 

11. Name the file MovieTT_Date_Site

12. Turn the Amp on

13. In the Hardware settings, select DIN3 under Dins 1-8. 

14. On the PC, select the Movie Test program

15. Select “Yes” For the Overwrite question. 

16. When the white box appears, return to the testing room to check the placement of the photocell. 

17. Ensure that the photocell is as close as possible to the screen and facing the upper left corner of the box. 

18. Check to make sure that the DIN3 light is lit when the photocell is facing the white box. 

19. When the photocell is correctly placed, turn all lights off in the room and close the testing room door. 

20. Return to the control room and begin the test by pressing any key. 

21. Check that DIN3 flags are appearing at the top of the Net Acquisition Window. 

22. The test will run for about 1 hour - 1 hour and 15 minutes. 


Checking the Results

23. After the test is complete, go to the Event Timing Tester app on the Mac.

24. Go to File > Open and retrieve the Movie Test file you just created. 

25. If necessary, change the Stim Event Code to stm+ and the DIN code to DIN3

26. Select Create Timing Table

27. Go to this spreadsheet: BFY Timing Tests and log the: 

28. After you have logged the results, zip (compress) the file and transfer it to your site’s EEG flash drive. 

29. Transfer the zipped file from the flash drive to the Noble drive. 


Remember to return all cords and items back to their designated places
